Connecting the Past and the Present

The passage of time is fascinating. A never-ending stream of fleeting moments, experiences, and memories combine to create our lives and stories. World history is the same: an enlargement of our collective memories and moments over time. The Ancient Egyptians. The Renaissance. The Byzantines. The Tang Dynasty. Empires, libraries, towns, and cities... they are built, they thrive, and they fall. I love following these cycles in the history books. I am inspired by remnants of our past: crumbling Romanesque arches, fading parchment papers, ancient texts from faraway lands.

My mission as an artist is to seek visual expression for the feelings and emotions I experience. I strive to explore the fleeting moment, to express the rapture of the beauty around me, and to anchor it all in the past. I believe we must keep the past alive: art, music, language, stories. To this end, I teach and study music and art, and I actively support historical organizations in my immediate community.

We learn from history. We are inspired by it. We must keep it alive!
